Name: Genetics of Asthma Severity & Phenotypes (GASP)

Principal Investigator: Professor Ian Sayers

Leading institution or organisation: BREATHE, University of Nottingham

Key Funding: Asthma UK

HDR Innovation Gateway Metadata Rating: Silver

The GASP project was set up in 2013 to create a large cohort of moderate to severe asthma patients to participate in genetic studies. To do this, all major respiratory centres in the UK provided accesses to their existing samples and clinical data, as well as to begin the processes of recruiting patients (which is still ongoing).

Currently, the cohort has data on around 4000 individuals, 2,536 of whom have Affymetrix Axion array data that has completed QC imputed to provide 33M variants.
