Launched in 2006, Generation Scotland looks at the health and well-being of volunteers and their families. The study aims to examine the lives of their participants from childhood through to old age. To do this, Generation Scotland gathers data from a variety of sources, including: volunteer questionnaire responses; detailed historic NHS records; innovative laboratory science; and data analytics.

The study’s ultimate goal is to share their findings to influence health policy and improve lives. As of June 2022, Generation Scotland has published over 250 publications in over 40 different journals.
